Since we had the title transferred a couple weeks ago, I've been doting on my car. I have spent two or three afternoons cleaning it and detailing it and vacuuming the carpet. Mostly it was just an excuse to sit in it and enjoy my car.
In addition to scrubbing it like a meth addict, I've been purchasing items to help make it feel more like mine. I shelled out $65 last week for new seat covers and floor mats, and have spent $2 or $3 here and there for little things like air fresheners and a little crystal star to hang on the rearview mirror. Right now I'm on eBay bidding on a new battery, car charger, hands-free set, and dashboard cell-phone holder so I can be mobile in more way than one, and not be a danger to myself while I'm on the road.

Right now I'm with Jessica, pet/house sitting. The animals she's being paid to watch are annoying as fuck. It's obvious that they're all fed table scraps, because this morning I was constantly having to swat two cats away while I ate half a sandwich, and while I was cooking dinner tonight two of the four dogs wouldn't stop begging. The only reason the other two dogs didn't get under foot while I was in the kitchen is because the owners want them locked in a bedroom overnight. I'm glad that after tonight I'll never have to be around these animals again.
I've been driving as much as I can lately, trying to get a lot of practice, and slowly but surely I'm getting better. Today I put 35 miles on the odometer and I only killed it once, because I tried to go up a pretty steep hill at 10 miles an hour in second gear. I'm thinking that having my license by the 15th of next month is a definite possibility.
Work is the same as always, but at least next week I'm scheduled for 33 hours instead of the 25 and I've been getting.
I feel like I'm writing an email to a friend I don't talk to very often, and I'm missing "The Machinist". I should really pay more attention, because there's more to the movie than just a disgustingly thin Christian Bale.

Let's see. The driving is progressing. I drove in my car for a couple of hours on Saturday and managed to only kill it three times (maybe four. I can't remember.) With lots of practice between now and then, I think my goal of being a licensed driver by this time next month is feasible.
I finally had my checker interview at work, and at the end of it was told that since the store is slowing down for the winter hours are being cut and they don't really need another checker right now. I can't help feeling a little disgruntled, because I feel like if they had interviewed me when I applied for the job a month and a half ago, maybe it would have happened.
My MS symptoms are proving to be more manageable than I had thought they would be. The tingling has gotten worse, but it hasn't changed into anything else. And really, how bad is it to have your arm and leg tingling all the time? I think I've actually gotten used to it.
And on a final note, my friend/co-worker/neighbor Linda regaled me with a story the other day, a story of her sister's boyfriend who has both a mullet and a rat tail. How horrifying is that?

Well, so much for feeling good. This morning when I woke up my left hand and lower leg were tingly, like they were asleep. Last time I woke up feeling like that, my entire body was numb within a week and it didn't go away for months. Cross your fingers for me.
I finally insured my car tonight, so Saturday morning I'll go print out my proof-of-insurance card at the library and take the car in to the local service station to have the tire fixed. While parking it after the test-drive, we drove over a nail and didn't realize it until after I agreed to buy it. It should only cost about $11 to have the tire plugged and next week I'll move on to making it personal and get fancy seat covers and floor mats for it. And maybe an air freshener that looks like a fish bowl and smells like vanilla.
The only other news I have to share is that my kitty hurt her paw. I don't know how she did it, but she managed to completely rip out the claw on her left outer toe. She's been a real trooper about it, and if it weren't for the fact that she holds her paw up when she's sitting, I wouldn't even know she was injured. We're looking out for signs of infection and keeping her inside until it heals, but so far she doesn't have a fever, and her paw isn't swollen. One thing's for sure: she's definitely mellowed out as she's gotten older. She's a lot more responsive to affection than she used to be. Last night my mom and I inspected the wound to assess the damage, and there was a fair amount of poking and prodding, and I am sure that it hurt quite a bit, but she didn't struggle or complain too much. Afterward I kissed her on the head, and cuddled her a little, and set her on my bed expecting her to immediately jump down and run away, but she stayed on the bed for the rest of the night.
If it hasn't been obvious, I'm completely uninterested in the internet lately. I check a couple blogs every now and then, and I check my email and bank account, etc., but I just can't find anything online to hold my attention for more than ten or fifteen minutes. Hopefully I will snap out of it soon and get back to posting more than once a week.

I suppose you would all like to know that the beginning of October finds me feeling much better. My leg is still a little weak, and my arm still doesn’t want to do what I tell it to do, but I’m not using the cane anymore.
This is quite a relief to me, since my exacerbation last year left me accumulating odd-feeling symptoms for almost five months. They just seemed to keep piling up, and sometimes some of them would fade off and I’d be left with the others. People with terrible progressive MS were horrified when I told them everything I was feeling.
I wrote the preceding passages two or three days ago and neglected to post them. Now I am feeling almost 100% again.
In other good news, I have purchased a car! A light blue 1983 Toyota Celica. I am going to get it insured when I get paid on Friday, and after that will be driving it at every opportunity so I can take my driver’s test before my sister, W’s 16th birthday party next month. It’s a manual transmission, so I’ll need plenty of practice before then! Wish me luck! Any specific questions about the car can be asked in the comments section.
I think other than that there’s not much going on. My mom is talking about selling the house and moving to Seattle, to be nearer to A and the baby and to make a new start for herself since she was let go from her job about a month ago and has no immediately promising leads. We’ll see if that pans out. The same gentleman I bought the car from seems interested in purchasing the house, and really, it could end up being a huge investment opportunity to the right person. If my mom sells it for $80,000 and the seller puts another $50,000 in repairs and updates into it, it could probably re-sell for close to $200,000. Hell, even if they don’t do any work on it, they’ll probably be able to re-sell for $100,000 in a few years the way property values are going up. Again, we’ll see.
I need to finish “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” tonight before bed, so I can start on “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” tomorrow, so I’m off for now! I hope all of my faithful readers (all six of you) are doing well!
