Kevin and I are having a nice time. He's had to work every day that I've been here, except for Friday, so I've been having to fend for myself a lot.
Friday was our two-year anniversary, so we exchanged gifts, went out to dinner, and then walked around downtown Vancouver for awhile. We went to Moxie's for dinner, and every other time I've been there it was great; awesome service, fantastic food, nice atmosphere. Friday night our waiter kept disappearing for twenty or thirty minutes at a time, my chicken was overcooked not once, but twice, and despite the fact that I was wearing a sweater, I was freezing. Our desserts were good, but I could only eat half of my dark chocolate brownie with French vanilla ice cream and blackberries. I didn't want to wait fifteen minutes for our waiter to bring a box, so I wrapped the remainder of my brownie in the cloth napkin and tucked it in my purse. I should have the rest of that brownie for a snack when I'm done with this.
After dinner we browsed Future Shop, and I bought a copy of Saved! for $10, and Kevin lusted over a Planet of the Apes collection that comes stored in a disturbing ape head that cost $180. We went to Kevin's favorite comic book store after that, and my ego was greatly boosted.
Apparently women don't frequent comic book stores, because when when we walked in Kevin went directly to the comics while I lingered near the front to look at the other neat things they had. When I was done browsing the magnets and action figures I walked over to where the comics were, and both male employees smiled at me a little too eagerly. After I'd picked up several books and flipped through them, one of the men asked if I was looking for anything in specific.
"No, I'm just browsing," I said. I gestured to Kevin. "He might be looking for something, though."
My remark about Kevin was ignored, and the store employee went on to ask if I was familiar with the layout of the store. I responded that I was not, but that Kevin was a longtime customer.
Again, he ignored Kevin completely and proceeded to tell me how the store was set up.
I made my purchases and we left. The three comics I walked away with were, Kingdom Come, a $20 graphic novel that Kevin proclaimed to be one of the best he'd ever read, and the first two issues of Fell by Warren Ellis. If you remember our anniversary last year, you'll know that Warren Ellis was nice enough to email Kevin a preview copy of Fell. I tried reading it, but without the drawings, it was tough. So, I bought the actual books, and it's really good. You should click the linked "Fell" and read the first issue. I haven't read all of Kingdom Come yet, but it's illustrated by Alex Ross, who is hands-down the most amazing comic-book illustrator of our time (maybe of all time), so even if I don't end up liking the story, the illustrations alone are worth the money.
Now that I've done so much linking I am too lazy to do more, so I'll just fill in the names of my current Netflix rentals and if you're interested in them, you can look them up on IMDB. Well, there are two more links, so I guess I lied.
The next three movies I will be watching, courtesy of Netflix:
1: Immortel
2: The Aristocrats
3: The Graduate
