Yesterday the same friend and I went to Ellensburg to pick up my mother, so she wouldn't have to take the short bus home from jail (the two days of jail time was retro-active punishment for a DUI she got last year). After tracking her down we had half an hour to kill before El Caporal would be open for lunch, so we decided to walk over to Better Life Natural Foods about two blocks away. By the time we reached the store five minutes later, my left leg was dragging from the effort and my right shoulder was aching from having to hold my arm rigid and support my weight with my cane. When I had to walk home from work last night my pace was so slow and uneven the last three blocks that I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it without stopping.
The frustrating thing about all of this is that I'm opting to not do things I really want to do, simply because I am afraid I won't have the energy and will have to spend most of my time recovering and dreading feeling this way for the rest of the day instead of enjoying myself. This morning I decided to not go because I didn't want to sit on a bench in Seattle waiting to feel better, when I could sit at home in a comfortable chair and never even have to change out of my pajamas. Multiple sclerosis has apparently crippled me in more way than one.
