Life On A Chain
You Were Meant For Me

Sep 8, 2005

My direct deposit at work should go through either today or next Thursday, and I've been using just cash for such a long time that it's going to be hard to get used to using plastic most of the time.

Since there are no branches of my credit union nearby, I have to take cash out of a non-network ATM, or just ask for cash back at the grocery store, or just use my debit card for everything.

Right now I'm keeping $40 or $50 from my paycheck and sending the rest to the bank. Once my money gets to the bank, every time I make a purchase I look in my register to check my balance and decide whether to use the cash in my wallet, or to use the money in my bank account. Most of the time I will wait until my cash is all spent before I start using my debit card, because I keep the cash as spending money and use the money in the bank to pay my bills, etc.

I am doing a pretty good job so far of managing my money. I have decided to not use my credit card for just making purchases, but rather to pay bills I would pay anyway. If I keep using it to buy things I just don't have the money for, it's going to stack up pretty quickly, and adding just that one extra bill every month makes me feel broke all the time.

On a semi-related note, I think that chances are pretty good I will be transferred into the store to work as a checker. The new manager put up a job posting a few weeks ago, and since I applied he's been dropping hints that they'll need to hire someone new for the fuel station. Now that the holiday weekend is over, they should be setting up interviews soon. Cross your fingers!

I have the day off today and have several things I need to do, but I'm just feeling too damned lazy to get up and do them. This is what happens when they give me split days off. I usually use day off #1 to rest, and day off #2 to be productive, but since both of my days off feel like day off #1, I don't get much done.

Don't forget to see what's new on my photo blog!
