Well, my reader stats would indicate that you have all noticed my absence. Two weeks ago I peaked at 123 readers in one day, and today there were three. I suppose I deserve it for ignoring my blog in favor of sleep, movies, and cuddling with Kevin.
Our holidays went well. I bitch and moan about not getting enough hours at work, and my karma came back to bite me in the ass when a co-worker realized that she had two weeks of vacation time to use before the end of the year. She asked to take off the two weeks surrounding Christmas, which just happened to be the two work weeks during which Kevin would be visiting. At least my paychecks were nice.
Despite my mom's drunken attempts to sabotage my carefully planned Christmas Eve dinner, it was a complete success. I cooked my first prime rib, and I must say that it turned out to be delicious despite any kind of real guidance as to what exactly I was doing.
Kevin admitted to me that he actually had fun buying my Christmas presents, and said that if he had been able to afford it, he would have spent more money on me. This gives me hope that by the time he's ready to propose to me, he will have reconsidered $300 as the most he will ever spend on an engagement ring.
When I opened his presents after dinner on Christmas Eve, it became apparent to me why he enjoyed the shopping so much: He bought me a portable DVD player. This means that his Christmas and birthday shopping will be much easier from this point on, since he is fluent in the language of "DVD". He's so cute sometimes that it hurts.
Unable to spend as much money on him as he spent on me, I inundated him with small gifts like cans of Monster XXL, packets of neat Kool-Aid flavors unavailable in Canada, and comic-book-hero-themed pencil toppers. I also gave him the special editions of War of the Worlds, The Professional, Memento, and Blade: Trinity. He already had Blade: Trinity, so I kept this one for myself and replaced it with the widescreen version of Madagascar. He doesn't know yet that I've done this.
Christmas day was spent doing a lot of driving. We were up by 7:00 A.M. and my little car made it over the pass with no trouble. It doesn't like going up hills, but we didn't mind taking it slow.
Kevin got to meet a lot of my extended family, which was the main purpose of his spending the holiday here (that, and I couldn't afford to take the time off of work). It wasn't as relaxing or as fun as it would have been at his mom and dad's but at least it wasn't an overnight trip, and we managed to avoid having to deal with this issue.
The rest of our visit was nice, but much, much too short.
How was your holiday? What did you get for Christmas?
