My computer was down for a week. I bought it used a year ago and it came with a bunch of miscellaneous software, including Mac OS X Panther Update discs. After accumulating a bunch of crap for the last year my computer was dragging pretty badly, and a friend of mine who works for Apple's tech support recommended reformatting at least once a year. He also assured me that the Update discs would be fine for the reformat.
After wiping my hard drive, i discovered that this was not the case.
Luckily, i have a friend who bought Panther last year and she let me borrow her install CDs. They were at her mom's house, so i had to wait a little while, but the week that i spent without a computer wasn't as painful as i figured it would be. Now i'm just working on resetting all of my preferences and such.
